dComms is an orchestration and deployment platform designed to help communities create their own communication networks, such as messaging systems and social networking services. Currently, dComms supports several fediverse solutions, including the Matrix/Element chat platform, PeerTube video player, and Mastodon for blogging. It also offers offline-first applications like the secure Delta Chat messaging platform and the decentralized Ceno browser.
Unlike cloud-based platforms, self-hosted networking solutions offer a resilient alternative. They provide a shutdown-resistant infrastructure, capable of functioning independently of global internet connectivity. By supporting federated communications, these self-hosted services enable the creation of a decentralized social and communications network—the fediverse—that operates beyond the control of any single company or provider. The size and scope of the fediverse grow as more servers and users join, offering a flexible and scalable option for communities. Users can communicate, share information, consume content, browse websites, etc. all without access to the global web.
With dComms, eQualitie makes it simple for new communities to set up and manage their own secure deployments.
Launched in early 2022 in response to the internet disruption risks during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, dComms now operates in dozens of countries with thousands of users.
The platform’s code is open-source and available on our GitHub repository:
